Pantana pluto is a destructive insect species belonging to the order Lepidoptera and the family Erebidae (subfamily Lymantriinae). Known primarily as a defoliator, this pest is a significant concern for various horticultural and forestry crops in Southeast Asia and surrounding tropical regions.
The host range of Pantana pluto is quite diverse, including economically important plants such as mango, cacao, and various shade trees. By feeding extensively on the foliage, the larvae cause significant physiological stress to the host plants, which can lead to reduced fruit set and stunted vegetative growth.
Regarding its biology, the insect undergoes a complete metamorphosis. Adult moths are typically nocturnal.
