The genus Panthera belongs to the family Felidae, order Carnivora. This group encompasses the world's most iconic big cats, including tigers, lions, leopards, and jaguars. From an agronomic standpoint, it is essential to clarify that Panthera species are not classified as agricultural pests, as they do not feed on crops or damage soil structures.

These animals are strict carnivores, evolved exclusively to hunt other animals. Their biology involves complex social structures and territorial behaviors that are completely divorced from plant cultivation, fertilization, or harvesting processes. There is no biological basis for considering them a threat to the health or yield of plants.

Therefore, no chemical or cultural control methods are used against them in agriculture.

Ecologically, these apex predators provide a service by controlling populations of wild herbivores. By keeping herbivore numbers in check, Panthera species can actually reduce the potential for damage that large wild mammals (such as deer or wild boars) might otherwise inflict on agricultural crops in areas adjacent to forests or reserves.
