Description
The genus Paria belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Chrysomelidae (leaf beetles). These insects are recognized as significant agricultural pests, particularly known as the Strawberry rootworm in regions where they cause substantial economic damage to berry crops.
The primary hosts for this pest include strawberry plants. Both adult beetles and larvae cause damage: adults feed on the foliage, creating characteristic shot-hole patterns, while the larvae feed primarily on the root system, causing severe physiological stress to the plants.
The biological cycle of this pest follows a complete metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Eggs are typically laid in the soil near the base of the plant. After hatching, the larvae move into the root zone to feed, and they eventually pupate in the soil before emerging as adults to attack the leaves.
The damage caused by these insects is multifaceted. Adult feeding leads to reduced photosynthetic capacity due to defoliation, while larval root feeding compromises the plant's structural integrity and nutrient uptake. Heavy infestations can significantly decrease fruit yield and plant vigor, often leading to patchy fields.

This includes crop rotation, maintaining weed-free fields to eliminate alternative hosts, and the timely application of approved insecticides targeting both larval and adult stages.
