Description
The eucalyptus leaf beetle (Paropsis obsoleta) is a member of the family Chrysomelidae within the order Coleoptera. It acts as a specialized herbivore, primarily targeting various Eucalyptus species, which makes it a significant concern for forestry sectors where these trees are commercially grown.
The host range is centered on eucalyptus trees, with both adults and larvae feeding on foliage. Larvae, in particular, are capable of consuming large amounts of leaf tissue in a short period, leading to rapid defoliation of host trees. This feeding behavior significantly reduces the tree's photosynthetic capacity.
