The Paropsisterna agricola is a beetle species belonging to the order Coleoptera and the family Chrysomelidae. Recognized as a significant pest in eucalyptus-growing regions, this insect has adapted to feed primarily on the foliage of specific tree varieties, causing concern among commercial forestry managers and plantation owners alike.

The beetle targets trees within the Eucalyptus genus, causing the most severe damage to young plantations and saplings. Because the insect feeds on fresh leaves, the vulnerability of young growth makes it a primary threat to forest regeneration efforts and reforestation projects where young, actively growing trees are common.

The life cycle of this pest involves complete metamorphosis, consisting of the egg, larva, pupa, and adult stages. They progress through several instars before eventually dropping to the ground or finding crevices in the bark to pupate into their adult form.

Damage is characterized by extensive skeletonization of the leaves, where the soft tissues between the veins are consumed. A high density of Paropsisterna agricola can lead to significant defoliation, which hampers the tree's ability to produce energy through photosynthesis, leading to reduced growth rates and increased susceptibility to secondary stressors.
