The Paropsisterna bimaculata, commonly known as the Tasmanian eucalyptus beetle, belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Chrysomelidae. It is recognized as a significant defoliator, primarily impacting eucalyptus plantations across various regions, often leading to substantial loss in wood production and tree health.

The beetle exclusively targets species of the genus Eucalyptus. Both adults and larvae feed on the foliage of these trees. The larvae are particularly voracious during their developmental stages, often congregating on the newest growth, which is essential for the rapid expansion of young trees.

The life cycle of Paropsisterna bimaculata comprises four distinct stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Eggs are typically laid in batches on leaves or bark.
