The half-wing geometer (Phigalia titea) is a member of the order Lepidoptera and the family Geometridae. This pest is native to temperate forests and can become a significant nuisance in orchards and deciduous woodlands during periods of population outbreaks.

The moth targets a wide range of host plants, including apple, pear, plum, and cherry trees, as well as various forest species such as oak, birch, and basswood. When left unchecked, these caterpillars can inflict considerable economic damage on commercial and private orchards.

The life cycle is marked by early activity; adult moths emerge in late winter or very early spring. Males are winged and active fliers, while females are flightless and must crawl up the trunks of trees to lay their eggs securely within bark crevices, where they overwinter.
