Systematic position: The willow leaf miner (Phyllocnistis saligna) belongs to the order Lepidoptera and the family Gracillariidae. This micro-moth is a specialized pest that targets various willow species, often causing significant damage to young nursery stock and ornamental plantings.
Host plants: The primary hosts are members of the Salix genus, such as Salix babylonica and Salix fragilis. High infestation levels are frequently observed in plantations where closely spaced trees facilitate the rapid spread of the pest population throughout the growing season.
