Description
Systematic position. The spotted tentiform leafminer belongs to the order Lepidoptera, family Gracillariidae. It is a significant pest of orchard crops worldwide, known for its specific feeding behavior which targets the internal tissues of host plant leaves.
Host plants and damage. The primary host is apple, although it can also affect pear, cherry, and other rosaceous species. The larvae feed within the leaf, creating distinct blotch-like mines on the underside. Heavy infestations cause leaves to turn brown, curl, and drop prematurely, severely hindering the tree's photosynthetic capacity.
