Pimpla pudibundae belongs to the Ichneumonidae family, order Hymenoptera. It is a specialized parasitoid wasp that plays a complex role in various ecosystems, particularly in forest environments where it interacts with populations of wood-eating and leaf-feeding Lepidoptera.

This species primarily targets the pupae of various moth species, including the pale tussock moth (Calliteara pudibunda). By inserting its ovipositor into the host pupa, the female lays an egg, which later hatches into a larva that consumes the host from the inside, eventually leading to its death and the emergence of a new adult wasp.
