Description

Taxonomic position. The insect genus Pistosia belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Chrysomelidae. These insects are specialized phytophages that have evolved in close association with specific groups of tropical and subtropical plants.

Host crops. The pest primarily affects species of the Arecaceae (palm) family. The most frequently damaged objects are coconut palms and other decorative or commercial palms grown in tropical climates.

Biology and life cycle. The life cycle consists of four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult (imago). Both adults and larvae live in concealed environments, often concentrating in the young, unfurled leaves of palms.
