Pogonognathellus is a genus of arthropods belonging to the class Collembola (springtails), specifically within the family Tomoceridae. These tiny, soil-dwelling creatures are ubiquitous in moist environments where they primarily feed on decaying organic matter, fungi, and occasionally plant tissue.

As pests, these springtails are particularly detrimental to greenhouse-grown crops and young seedlings. They thrive in damp, dark environments where they attack delicate roots, root hairs, and young stems, which can severely weaken the plant and impede its overall development.

The life cycle of Pogonognathellus is highly dependent on humidity levels and organic substrate availability. These pests undergo multiple molts throughout their life, and because they can reproduce rapidly in enclosed spaces with stagnant air, they often form dense populations that can quickly overwhelm a tray of seedlings.
