Porotermes planiceps is a species of damp-wood termite belonging to the order Blattodea, family Termopsidae. Unlike subterranean termites that primarily live in soil, this species is highly adapted to nesting directly within moist, decaying, or damaged wood, making it a significant pest in both natural forests and managed plantations.

These termites target a variety of tree species, favoring wood that has been compromised by weather, physical injury, or fungal infection. In agricultural and forestry contexts, the presence of Porotermes planiceps within the heartwood of a tree creates structural instability and reduces the timber value significantly.

The biology of this termite revolves around a caste-based colony system. The nymphs develop through several instars within the wood, slowly expanding the gallery systems.
