Description

The genus Prolita consists of moths belonging to the family Gelechiidae, order Lepidoptera. These insects are recognized in agriculture as specialized pests. Due to their small size and cryptic lifestyle, they often go unnoticed until significant damage to the crop has already occurred, necessitating vigilant field monitoring.

These pests primarily target plants within the Asteraceae family. The larvae are most damaging to the reproductive structures, such as flower buds and developing seeds. This preference makes them a particular concern for growers of ornamental flowers, sunflowers, and other seed-bearing crops where quality is determined by the integrity of the bloom.

The lifecycle of Prolita follows the typical development of Gelechiid moths, consisting of egg, larva, pupa, and adult stages. Overwintering occurs in the pupal stage, often sheltered in soil or debris.
