Description
Pseudodendrothrips is a genus of tiny insects belonging to the order Thysanoptera and the family Thripidae. These pests are known for infesting various tree and shrub species, primarily causing damage to the foliage, which can lead to significant horticultural and economic losses if left unmanaged.
These insects commonly attack species such as mulberry trees (Morus). Due to their minute size and tendency to inhabit the undersides of leaves, they are often overlooked until significant damage to the plant tissue has already occurred, making early detection a critical aspect of garden management.
The biology of Pseudodendrothrips is characterized by a rapid development cycle that is highly influenced by climatic conditions. Females lay eggs directly into the leaf tissues. After hatching, the larvae feed on plant sap, eventually undergoing pupation either in the soil or protected crevices on the tree bark before emerging as adults.
The primary symptom of infestation is the development of chlorotic spots, streaks, or a silvery appearance on the leaf surface. As the pest density increases, the leaves may become distorted, necrotic, or suffer from premature senescence and abscission, which weakens the overall health and vigor of the host plant.

- systemic insecticides targeting sucking pests;
- yellow sticky traps for population monitoring;
- proper sanitation, including the removal of fallen leaves and debris to eliminate overwintering sites;
