The genus Psittacula, specifically the ring-necked parakeet, belongs to the order Psittaciformes and the family Psittaculidae. In many regions worldwide, these birds have become significant agricultural pests due to their invasive nature and their ability to thrive in modified human environments, causing severe losses in commercial agriculture.
The ring-necked parakeet inflicts substantial damage upon a wide variety of agricultural crops. They are known to target cereal crops such as maize and wheat, as well as oilseeds like sunflowers. Fruit orchards are particularly vulnerable, with parakeets consuming and destroying apples, pears, peaches, citrus, and various stone fruits, often causing damage to nut crops as well.

Other deterrents include auditory devices, such as acoustic distress call players, propane cannons, and visual deterrents like raptor decoys, which should be deployed strategically to minimize the damage caused by these avian pests.
