These mollusks affect a wide range of plants, including vegetables, flowers, and berries. They are particularly dangerous to seedlings and young transplants, as they can rapidly consume delicate plant tissues. Additionally, their feeding behavior results in the scarring of fruit surfaces, which significantly lowers the market value and quality of the harvest.

The biology of Pupilla is heavily dependent on moisture levels in the substrate. As hermaphroditic organisms, they demonstrate high reproductive potential. Their life cycle involves laying eggs in the topsoil or under organic debris. When environmental conditions are optimal, their population can increase rapidly, leading to severe outbreaks within a single growing season.

Typical damage includes irregular, lace-like consumption of leaves and scraping of the epidermal layer on stems and fruits. Their harmfulness is compounded by the fact that they can vector various fungal and bacterial pathogens, transferring diseases through their mucus trails and the open wounds they create on the plant tissues.
