The Isabella tiger moth (Pyrrharctia isabella) is a member of the Erebidae family within the order Lepidoptera. Widely recognized for the distinctive appearance of its larvae, commonly known as woolly bear caterpillars, this insect is a generalist herbivore that can sporadically cause damage to various agricultural and ornamental plant species.

The host range of this species is remarkably diverse. Caterpillars feed on a wide variety of herbaceous plants, including vegetable crops like beans, cabbage, and spinach, as well as various grasses and weeds. When their natural food sources are depleted or when populations spike, they are known to migrate to cultivated crops, potentially damaging both foliage and young stems.
