Raillietia caprae is a species of mesostigmatid mite belonging to the family Raillietiidae. Unlike plant-feeding pests, this organism is a well-known ectoparasite that specifically infests the ear canals of domestic goats. It is a significant concern in veterinary medicine, as it directly impacts the welfare and productivity of small ruminant herds.

The biology of the mite is strictly adapted to the microclimate of the host's ear canal. These mites feed on the cerumen (earwax) and the epidermal debris of the skin. Their life cycle is completed within the ear environment, where adult mites, nymphs, and eggs can be found simultaneously. The infestation is transmitted through direct contact between animals or through shared bedding in poorly managed housing.

The primary damage caused by Raillietia caprae manifests as intense inflammation of the external ear canal. Symptoms include frequent head shaking, scratching of the ears, and in severe cases, the production of purulent exudate.
