Reesimermis (specifically Reesimermis nielseni) is a genus of nematodes belonging to the order Mermithida and the family Mermithidae. These organisms are not agricultural pests; instead, they are recognized as highly effective biological control agents that target the larvae of various mosquito species found in aquatic environments.

The systematic classification identifies these nematodes as obligate parasites. They are uniquely adapted to aquatic life stages of their hosts, focusing their entire life cycle on infecting mosquito larvae while leaving plant life and beneficial terrestrial insects completely unaffected.

In terms of biology and development, the nematode lifecycle begins when preparasitic larvae emerge from eggs in the water. They actively seek out mosquito larvae, penetrate their cuticle, and reside in the hemocoel. There, they consume the host's body fat and fluids, eventually killing the mosquito as they emerge to continue their life cycle in the sediment.

Regarding damage and economic importance, Reesimermis is considered beneficial. By suppressing mosquito populations, it reduces the prevalence of disease-carrying vectors around agricultural sites. There is no evidence of these nematodes causing any injury or yield loss to cultivated crops, as their nutritional needs are exclusively derived from aquatic insect hosts.
