Systematic position: The potato tuber moth (Scrobipalpopsis solanivora) belongs to the order Lepidoptera, family Gelechiidae. It is recognized as a significant quarantine pest worldwide, notorious for its ability to devastate potato production by infesting both the foliage and the tubers of the host plants.

Host plants: The primary host of this pest is the potato (Solanum tuberosum). However, it is also known to infest tomatoes and other wild and cultivated species of the Solanaceae family. Its ability to survive and thrive on various solanaceous crops makes it a difficult threat to manage in agricultural regions.

Biology and life cycle: The insect undergoes a complete metamorphosis, including egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages. Females lay eggs on leaves or directly on potato tubers.
