Description

Scutellonema brachyurus is a notorious plant-parasitic nematode belonging to the family Hoplolaimidae within the order Tylenchida. Known commonly as a type of spiral nematode, it acts as both an ectoparasite and an endoparasite of plant roots. Its ability to survive in diverse soil types makes it a significant challenge for agricultural management across various climatic zones.

The host range of this nematode is extremely broad, encompassing both monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous plants. Key agricultural crops, such as soybeans, maize, potatoes, and various fruits, are highly susceptible to its presence. Furthermore, nursery stock and greenhouse ornamentals often suffer severe damage when soil conditions are not properly monitored for this pest.

The biological cycle of Scutellonema brachyurus involves development through several larval stages before reaching adulthood.
