Description

The genus Semiothisa (frequently reclassified under Macaria) belongs to the Geometridae family, order Lepidoptera. These moths are widely recognized by their larvae, known as inchworms or loopers, due to the unique way they move by drawing their hind legs toward their thoracic legs.

This pest affects a wide variety of host plants, including various deciduous trees, shrubs, and commercial crops. Their presence is a concern in orchards, plantations, and forestry, as they can cause significant ecological and economic damage when population densities reach threshold levels.

The life cycle follows a complete metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Eggs are typically deposited on the foliage. Upon hatching, the larvae feed voraciously on plant tissues.
