Sharliphora is a genus of insects within the order Hymenoptera, belonging to the family Tenthredinidae, commonly known as sawflies. These insects are specialized pests that primarily target coniferous trees, with a particular affinity for various species of the genus Picea (spruce). Understanding their behavior is essential for effective forest and garden management.

The life cycle of Sharliphora consists of four distinct stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Adult females use their saw-like ovipositors to insert eggs into the tissues of conifer needles. Once hatched, the larvae, often referred to as false caterpillars, begin feeding on the needles. Their development is typically synchronized with the growth of the host tree, and pupation usually occurs within the soil litter beneath the canopy.

The primary damage is caused by the larval stage, which feeds on the needles, either skeletonizing them or consuming them entirely. Furthermore, promoting tree vigor through proper irrigation and fertilization helps trees withstand minor infestations.
