The Etruscan bee fly (lat. Spongostylum etruscum) is a member of the family Bombyliidae, belonging to the order Diptera. While many bee flies are beneficial pollinators, this specific species has parasitic characteristics that can be detrimental to plant health. Adult flies are noted for their mimicry, resembling bumblebees to deter potential predators.

This pest is primarily associated with various decorative plants and can occasionally affect agricultural crops. The damage occurs during the larval stage, which takes place in the soil. These larvae may compromise the health of root systems or negatively impact the beneficial soil ecosystem, indirectly weakening the resilience of the crops they infest.
