The Pacific buffalo treehopper (Stictocephala pacifica) is a member of the family Membracidae within the order Hemiptera. These insects are easily recognized by their unique pronotum, which is enlarged and often shaped like a hump or horns, providing effective camouflage among foliage and twigs.
This pest primarily attacks a wide range of fruit and ornamental trees. Its host list includes species such as apple, pear, peach, and various woody shrubs. The infestation is particularly damaging in nurseries and young orchards, where the structural integrity of the stems is crucial for the development of the tree.
