The genus Strymonidia, commonly known as hairstreaks, belongs to the order Lepidoptera and the family Lycaenidae. These small butterflies are distinguished by the fine, tail-like extensions on their hindwings. While many lycaenids are considered harmless, certain species within this group can behave as minor pests in orchards, impacting the health and yield of fruit-bearing trees.

Target crops for these pests primarily include pome and stone fruits such as apples, plums, and cherries. The larvae, or caterpillars, focus their feeding activity on developing buds, young foliage, and occasionally the early stages of fruitlets.
