The Blue-spot Hairstreak (Strymonidia spini) is a butterfly belonging to the Lycaenidae family. While primarily known for its biological significance in butterfly studies, the larval stage (caterpillar) is recognized in agronomy as a potential pest that affects various deciduous fruit trees in orchards and private gardens.
This species mainly targets plants within the Rosaceae family. Its primary hosts include blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), plums, apricots, cherries, and occasionally apple trees. During their growth phase, the larvae focus their feeding on developing buds and young foliage, which can cause significant stress to the host plant.
