Systematic position: The pepper moth (Symmetrischema capsicum) belongs to the order Lepidoptera, family Gelechiidae. This small moth is a significant pest primarily known for affecting pepper crops in both open fields and greenhouses.
Host plants: The primary hosts for this species are plants within the Solanaceae family. It causes the most severe economic damage to sweet and hot pepper (Capsicum annuum) crops. It can also be found on wild solanaceous weeds, which act as alternative hosts throughout the growing season.
