Szepligetella sericea is a species of parasitic wasp belonging to the order Hymenoptera and the family Eurytomidae. While many members of this family are beneficial parasitoids, some species, including this one, can act as significant pests by specifically targeting the developing seeds of certain plants.

This pest is primarily known for damaging the reproductive parts of various herbaceous plants. By attacking seeds, it directly reduces the viability of the harvest. Agricultural areas focused on seed production are particularly vulnerable, as the damage often occurs inside the seed coat, making detection challenging during the early stages of infestation.

The biology of this species is synchronized with the development of its host plant. The female uses her ovipositor to insert eggs into the host's immature seeds.
