Macfarlane spider mite

The Macfarlane spider mite (Tetranychus macfarlanei) is a member of the Arachnida class, order Trombidiformes, and family Tetranychidae. It is a highly destructive polyphagous pest that poses a significant threat to various agricultural crops worldwide, particularly in tropical and subtropical climates.

This mite attacks a broad range of host plants, including economically significant crops such as okra, eggplant, beans, cucumbers, melons, and cotton. Its ability to infest various species allows it to thrive in different farming environments, making it a difficult pest to manage in large-scale agriculture.

The biology of Tetranychus macfarlanei is characterized by a rapid life cycle, which is heavily influenced by warm and dry conditions. The mites typically form colonies on the underside of leaves, where they construct fine silk webbing.
