Tetranycopsis (Tetranycopsis) is a genus of mites belonging to the family Tetranychidae. These pests are specialized plant feeders that cause significant agricultural damage. Unlike common spider mites, they may not always produce extensive webbing, making visual identification challenging during the early stages of infestation.

These mites primarily target various perennial crops, including fruit trees and ornamental shrubs. By piercing the epidermal cells of the leaves with their stylets, they extract vital fluids, which interferes with the plant’s normal physiological processes, such as photosynthesis and transpiration.

The life cycle of the Tetranycopsis mite is heavily influenced by climatic conditions. Overwintering females typically seek shelter in bark crevices or plant debris. As temperatures rise in spring, they migrate to developing buds and foliage to initiate new generations, with their development time shortening significantly in hot and dry environments.

The damage caused by this pest starts with minute stippling on the leaves, which eventually evolves into generalized yellowing or bronzing. Severe infestations lead to leaf senescence and early abscission. This defoliation reduces the plant's overall vigor, depletes carbohydrate reserves, and significantly diminishes the quantity and quality of the yield.

Effective management requires a combination of cultural practices and chemical interventions. Maintaining healthy, well-irrigated trees is essential, as stressed plants are more susceptible to outbreaks. When populations exceed economic thresholds, applying selective acaricides is necessary to protect the canopy, ensuring applications reach the undersides of the leaves.
