Taxonomy: The destructive flour beetle (Tribolium destructor) belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Tenebrionidae. It is a well-known pest of stored products, notorious for its ability to infest grain storage facilities, food processing plants, and domestic pantries, often causing significant economic losses.

Host crops and materials: This beetle is highly polyphagous, attacking a wide range of stored commodities. Its primary targets include whole grains (wheat, barley, corn), flour, bran, cereals, pulses, oilseeds, dried fruits, nuts, and various animal-derived products like dried meats and fish. Its adaptability makes it a persistent threat in diverse storage environments.

Biology and life cycle: The lifecycle of Tribolium destructor consists of egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages. The adult beetle is characterized by its dark brown to black coloration and a size of about 5–6 mm. They thrive in warm and humid environments, where they can reproduce rapidly throughout the year, with multiple overlapping generations occurring in favorable conditions.

Nature of damage and pest impact: Damage is caused primarily by larvae and adults feeding on the stored commodities. They consume the internal parts of grains and seeds, causing significant weight loss and nutrient degradation. Moreover, their presence leads to extensive contamination of products with excrement, cast skins, and fragments, rendering the goods unacceptable for human consumption and lowering market value.
