Freeman's flour beetle (Tribolium freemani) is a serious pest of stored products belonging to the family Tenebrionidae and the order Coleoptera. This species is closely related to other flour beetles but has distinct biological characteristics that make it a formidable threat to stored grain facilities worldwide.

This pest infests a wide range of commodities, including wheat, corn, rice, various flours, nuts, dried fruits, and processed cereals. Its ability to thrive in warm, dry environments allows it to establish populations deep within grain bulk, where it often remains undetected until significant damage has occurred.

The life cycle of the beetle consists of the egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages. The development speed is highly temperature-dependent, with optimal conditions enabling rapid generation turnover. Both the larvae and adults feed on the commodities, often favoring the embryo of the kernel, which renders the grain useless for seed purposes.

Economic damage is primarily caused by the direct consumption of grain and the subsequent contamination with excrement, cast skins, and secretions. These contaminants not only lower the quality and market value of the product but also induce biological changes, such as heating and molding, which can lead to rapid deterioration of the entire storage lot.
