The laurel psyllid (Trioza magniforceps) is an insect species belonging to the order Hemiptera and the family Triozidae. It is recognized as a significant pest of Laurus nobilis, causing structural damage to leaves and affecting the overall vigor of the host plant.
This pest is primarily found on laurel trees, where it targets young foliage. The damage is particularly severe in nursery settings or in regions with favorable climates where the insect can complete multiple life cycles within a single growing season.
The lifecycle begins when overwintering adults emerge in early spring to deposit eggs on the developing buds and young leaves of the laurel. Upon hatching, the nymphs begin feeding on the plant tissue, secreting toxins that interfere with the plant's normal growth regulation.
