The vinegar eel (Turbatrix aceti) belongs to the phylum Nematoda, order Rhabditida, family Panagrolaimidae. Although it is commonly associated with fermented liquids like vinegar, it is recognized in agricultural settings as a soil-dwelling nematode that can thrive in conditions of high organic decay and excessive moisture, negatively impacting agricultural production.
This pest is primarily associated with crops growing in substrates that lack proper sanitation. Turbatrix aceti exploits areas of decaying organic matter around the root zone. While not an aggressive primary parasite in healthy plants, it can invade tissues weakened by environmental stress or secondary infections, exacerbating root system degradation.
