Description
The Crimson Speckled Moth (Utetheisa pulchella) is a member of the order Lepidoptera and the family Erebidae. This species is widely distributed throughout Africa, Southern Europe, and Asia. It is a migratory pest known for its distinctive white wings with red and black spots, which can appear in large numbers depending on climatic conditions.
The pest primarily affects crops from the families Fabaceae, Boraginaceae, and Solanaceae. Key agricultural hosts include alfalfa, soybeans, cotton, and various vegetable crops. Larvae feed aggressively on foliage, which can cause significant damage to young plants and reduce overall agricultural yield if left unmanaged.
