Vanduzeea arquata is a species of treehopper belonging to the family Membracidae within the order Hemiptera. These insects are well-known for their unique pronotum, which often extends backward over the abdomen, providing them with a thorn-like appearance that acts as effective camouflage against predators. They are primarily found in warm climates where they thrive on woody host plants.

These pests primarily target various species of the Fabaceae family, including acacias and albizias. They are often found in high numbers on young growth, where they feed by piercing the plant tissue and extracting phloem sap. In many instances, they establish mutualistic relationships with ants, which protect the treehoppers from natural enemies in exchange for the sugary honeydew they secrete.

The lifecycle of Vanduzeea arquata involves egg deposition directly into the plant stems or leaf petioles. Once the nymphs hatch, they undergo several developmental stages, remaining sedentary in colonies for most of their life cycle. Their reproduction is highly dependent on environmental warmth, allowing for multiple generations in a single season if conditions are optimal.

Additionally, the honeydew excreted by the nymphs facilitates the growth of sooty mold, which coats the leaves in a black, powdery fungus. This substance interferes with photosynthesis, significantly reducing the vigor and aesthetic value of ornamental plants.
