Xylobiops (lat. Xylobiops) is a genus of insects belonging to the family Bostrichidae within the order Coleoptera. These beetles are specialized wood-borers that primarily infest weakened, dying, or dead woody tissues of various plants, acting as secondary pests that can significantly impair plant health.
This pest affects a wide range of woody plants and shrubs. In agricultural settings, it poses a particular risk to fruit-bearing trees, vineyards, and ornamental species. Its presence is most frequently documented in regions with warm climates, where the environmental conditions support continuous development of subsequent generations throughout the year.
The biology of Xylobiops is marked by a cryptic lifestyle. Both adult beetles and larvae operate within the wood, making early detection extremely challenging for growers.
