Systematic position: Xylothrips flavipes belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Bostrichidae, commonly known as auger beetles. It is recognized globally as a significant pest of timber and processed wood products, frequently causing substantial economic loss in the timber industry.

Host plants and affected materials: This beetle is a polyphagous pest capable of infesting a wide range of both coniferous and deciduous tree species. It is particularly notorious for damaging seasoned wood, plywood, bamboo, and various structural timber components used in construction and furniture manufacturing.

Biology and life cycle: The insect undergoes a complete metamorphosis involving egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages. Adult beetles bore into the timber to create galleries where eggs are laid. Larvae feed extensively within the wood, creating intricate tunnels and filling them with fine wood dust, which significantly degrades the integrity of the material.
