Zelus socius is a member of the Reduviidae family, commonly known as assassin bugs, within the order Hemiptera. These insects are recognized as formidable predators in various terrestrial habitats. They are equipped with raptorial front legs and a curved rostrum used to pierce their prey and inject lethal toxins that liquefy the internal organs of their victims.

While often found in agricultural settings, including cotton fields, soybean crops, and vegetable gardens, Zelus socius is primarily predatory.
