These beetles are predominantly found in arid and semi-arid environments, including regions across the Mediterranean basin and North Africa. While they are a natural part of these ecosystems, they occasionally transition into agricultural pests, posing risks to localized farming operations.

This beetle is known for its polyphagous behavior, affecting a wide variety of crops. It typically targets germinating seeds and young seedlings of cereals, legumes, and various vegetable crops.
