Description
Bromadiolone is a highly effective active substance belonging to the second-generation anticoagulant class of rodenticides. Chemically, it is a hydroxycoumarin derivative widely recognized in professional pest management and agricultural practice for its superior efficacy in controlling rodent populations.
The mechanism of action involves the inhibition of vitamin K1 metabolism in the liver. By disrupting the synthesis of clotting factors, bromadiolone causes progressive internal hemorrhage in rodents. This physiological impact is slow-acting, preventing the rest of the colony from associating the bait with the death of the consumed individuals, which is critical for total infestation eradication.
Bromadiolone is employed to protect diverse crops, from field grains to horticulture, and is essential in protecting storage facilities, grain elevators, and livestock housing. It is particularly effective against Norway rats, roof rats, field mice, and voles that have developed resistance to first-generation anticoagulants.
Application strategies require placing the bait in tamper-resistant containers or specific bait stations to ensure the substance is accessible only to target pests. Proper site analysis is necessary to determine the number and spacing of bait stations, ensuring maximum coverage across agricultural lands or indoor facilities.
- High acute toxicity with single-feed effectiveness.
- Potent against anticoagulant-resistant rodent populations.
- Low degradation rate, ensuring long-term bait stability.
- Excellent palatability for target rodent species.
Safety precautions must be strictly followed to mitigate risks to humans, pets, and non-target wildlife. Operators must wear protective equipment, including gloves and respirators, when handling the concentrated form. It is mandatory to collect and dispose of dead rodents immediately to prevent secondary exposure to owls, hawks, or other predators in the ecosystem.
