Ziram

Description

Ziram (zinc dimethyldithiocarbamate) is a chemical compound belonging to the dithiocarbamate class, serving as a well-established contact fungicide in agricultural practices. It is widely utilized to protect various fruit and vegetable crops from a diverse range of fungal pathogens, providing a reliable defensive layer against infection.

The mechanism of action of ziram is primarily based on the disruption of metabolic processes within fungal cells. By inhibiting spore germination and mycelial development, the fungicide prevents the pathogen from establishing a colony on the plant tissue. It works as a multi-site inhibitor, which helps in delaying the development of resistance in fungi.

Ziram is particularly effective against diseases such as scab on pome fruits, leaf curl in stone fruits, anthracnose, and various leaf spots. It is commonly applied in orchards, vineyards, and field-grown vegetable crops, acting as a preventive measure that shields the plant throughout its most vulnerable growth stages.

When applying ziram, the physical properties of the formulation are crucial. Because it is a non-systemic agent, the goal of the application is to ensure thorough coverage of all plant surfaces, including the undersides of leaves and developing fruit, to create a persistent protective barrier that remains active for a specific duration.

  • Excellent protective action against diverse fungal species.
  • Strong adhesion to plant surfaces for prolonged effectiveness.
  • Non-systemic nature prevents residue translocation in plant parts.
  • Versatile use in integrated pest management programs.

Safety is a priority when handling ziram. Users must employ appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, goggles, and respiratory protection, to minimize exposure. Furthermore, adherence to the pre-harvest interval (PHI) and environmental protection regulations is essential to ensure food safety and minimize ecological impact.
