Description
Fenpyroximate is a potent active ingredient belonging to the phenoxypyrazole chemical class, widely used as a contact acaricide. It is specifically designed to control a broad range of plant-feeding mites, including spider mites, tarsonemid mites, and eriophyid mites that cause significant damage to commercial crops.
The mode of action of this substance involves the inhibition of mitochondrial electron transport at the complex I site. By effectively blocking the respiratory chain, fenpyroximate disrupts the energy metabolism of the mite, leading to rapid paralysis, feeding cessation, and eventual mortality of the pest.
This active ingredient acts primarily through contact and ingestion, showing excellent efficacy against various life stages of mites, including larvae, nymphs, and adults. Its fast-acting nature provides an immediate "knock-down" effect, which is crucial for preventing crop damage during periods of rapid pest population growth.
Fenpyroximate is applied on a variety of crops, such as pome fruits, grapes, vegetables, and ornamental plants in both field and greenhouse environments. Because it lacks systemic movement within the plant, achieving thorough coverage through precise application techniques is essential for effective pest control.
Safety protocols must be strictly followed when handling fenpyroximate. Operators should wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to avoid dermal or inhalation exposure. Furthermore, it is important to minimize environmental impact by adhering to local regulations regarding spray drift and protecting non-target organisms, especially bees during blooming periods.
