Flocoumafen

Flocoumafen is a potent active substance classified as a second-generation anticoagulant rodenticide, specifically a hydroxycoumarin derivative. It is widely utilized in professional pest management programs to control rat and mouse populations in both agricultural settings and food storage facilities.

The mechanism of action for flocoumafen involves inhibiting the vitamin K1-2,3-epoxide reductase enzyme. By disrupting the liver's ability to synthesize essential blood-clotting factors, the substance induces fatal internal hemorrhaging in rodents, typically resulting in death a few days after the lethal dose is ingested.

It is effectively deployed in various agricultural environments, including grain silos, livestock buildings, and surrounding farmlands. Flocoumafen is specifically noted for its high efficacy against rodent populations that have developed resistance to earlier, first-generation anticoagulants like warfarin.

When applying flocoumafen, it is crucial to ensure that the bait is placed in protected bait stations to prevent accidental ingestion by non-target species such as livestock or pets.
