The substance is absorbed efficiently through both leaves and roots, translocating throughout the plant to ensure thorough eradication of the target weeds.
The biological mechanism of action involves the inhibition of the acetolactate synthase (ALS) enzyme. By blocking this essential enzyme, the herbicide prevents the biosynthesis of branched-chain amino acids, specifically valine, leucine, and isoleucine. This metabolic disruption leads to the cessation of cell division and rapid growth arrest, effectively killing the weed within a short timeframe.
This active ingredient is widely utilized in various crops, including corn, cereals, rice, and turfgrass management. Its selective nature allows for post-emergence application without causing significant stress or damage to the crops, as the treated crops generally possess the biochemical pathways necessary to metabolize and detoxify the compound rapidly.
