Haloxyfop-P-methyl
Description
Haloxyfop-P-methyl is a systemic, selective herbicide belonging to the aryloxyphenoxypropionate chemical class. It is primarily used to control a wide range of annual and perennial grass weeds in various broad-leaved crops.
The mechanism of action involves the inhibition of acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase), a vital enzyme responsible for fatty acid synthesis in plant cells. Once absorbed by the foliage, the herbicide translocates rapidly through the phloem, leading to metabolic collapse and plant death.
It is widely applied in crops such as soybeans, sunflowers, sugar beets, oilseed rape, and potatoes. This active ingredient is particularly effective against tough rhizomatous grasses like couch grass, as well as various annual species like barnyard grass and green foxtail.
Application effectiveness depends on targeting weeds during their active growth stage, typically at the 2 to 6-leaf stage. Since the herbicide is selective, it can be applied post-emergence without risking damage to the target broad-leaved crop, offering high operational flexibility.
- Excellent systemic activity for deep root kill.
- Selective control without affecting broad-leaved crops.
- Rapid absorption, ensuring rainfastness shortly after spraying.
- Effective against both annual and established perennial grasses.
Safety precautions are essential; handlers should wear appropriate protective equipment to avoid skin and eye contact. Extreme caution must be taken to prevent spray drift onto adjacent cereal crops or grasses, as the substance is highly phytotoxic to all members of the Poaceae family.
