The mechanism of action involves the inhibition of microtubule assembly within plant cells during mitosis. By binding to tubulin, oryzalin disrupts the cell division process in the root and shoot tips of germinating weeds. As a result, the sensitive weed seedlings fail to develop a functional root system, leading to their rapid mortality before they can emerge above the soil surface.

Oryzalin is commonly applied in diverse agricultural systems, including orchards, vineyards, nurseries, and specific field crops such as soybeans and alfalfa. It is particularly effective against invasive annual grasses like foxtails, crabgrass, and barnyardgrass. Its stable chemical structure allows for a residual effect, maintaining a protective barrier in the top layers of the soil.

The product should be applied evenly and incorporated into the top layer of the soil either through shallow mechanical tilling or via rainfall or irrigation shortly after application.
