Propaquizafop

Propaquizafop is a selective, systemic herbicide belonging to the aryloxyphenoxypropionate chemical family. It is widely recognized in professional agronomy as a highly effective graminicide used for the post-emergence management of grass weeds in various broad-leaved crops.

The mode of action of propaquizafop is the inhibition of the enzyme acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase), which is essential for fatty acid biosynthesis in plants. Once the substance enters the plant system, it is rapidly translocated to the meristematic tissues, leading to the cessation of growth, chlorosis, and the eventual death of the target weed species.

The product is registered for use on a broad spectrum of crops, including sugar beet, soybeans, sunflowers, oilseed rape, potatoes, and various vegetables. It provides excellent control against challenging weeds such as Elymus repens (quackgrass), Setaria species, Digitaria species, and volunteer cereals.

Optimal field performance is typically achieved when weeds are in the active growth stage. For annual grasses, the ideal timing is between the 2-leaf and tillering stage; for perennial grasses like quackgrass, it is recommended to apply when the plants reach a height of 10 to 15 centimeters. The application is highly flexible and can be performed regardless of the main crop's growth phase.

When applying propaquizafop, users must adhere to safety guidelines to protect the operator and the environment. Protective equipment is mandatory during the mixing and spraying process. Furthermore, drift must be strictly prevented, as cereal crops and grasses outside the target area may be severely damaged by the herbicide.
